Kerakoll S.p.A., a B Corp certified Benefit Company specialising in sustainable building materials, including flooring products, has acquired a 60% strategic majority stake in Caltra Nederland B.V., a Dutch manufacturer of alternative, environmentally friendly binders and cement-like materials. The remaining 40% will remain in the hands of the current owners, Daniëlle M. Hemmink-van Nes and Stephan P. van Nes, who will also retain operational leadership of the company.

Caltra, founded in 1984 by Ludo van Nes and led by his daughter and son since 2013, specialises in the development, production and sale of Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) and Low-Carbon Clinker, both aimed at reducing CO₂ emissions in the construction industry. The company currently has three production sites in the Netherlands and is building a fourth, which is expected to become operational in the third quarter of 2025.
The acquisition aims to combine the strengths and resources of both companies to develop innovative, low-carbon binders. This is in line with ambitious goals to make the cement industry, which accounts for about 7% of global carbon emissions, more sustainable. The use of alternative materials and circular solutions is seen as one of the main paths to an emission-free construction sector.
Daniëlle and Stephan van Nes will stay on as shareholders and operational leaders, ensuring stability for employees, suppliers and customers. They will also play a central role in realising new, pioneering projects within the sector.
