Serta Simmons is set to close its California factory impacting 180 employees

Serta Simmons Bedding is set to close its Moreno Valley, California factory, impacting 180 employees. The decision is part of the company's broader effort to "optimise" its manufacturing network and follows a series of similar closures in recent years.

Operations at the 533,000 sq. ft facility will begin winding down on 5 July, with the closure expected to be completed by 30 September, according to a WARN notice filed with the state. Affected roles include mattress makers, drivers, sewers and purchasing staff.

This marks the seventh plant closure for Serta Simmons since 2022. The site was originally opened in 2018 during an expansion push. The company has since restructured, including a Chapter 11 bankruptcy process concluded in June 2023. Post-closure, Serta Simmons will operate 17 factories across North America.

Production from the California site will be transferred to other facilities to maintain service for West Coast retail partners.

In a statement, the company said it continues to evaluate its operations to "create operational efficiencies" and ensure "exceptional service". It acknowledged the challenges of the decision and pledged support for affected employees, thanking them for their contributions during the transition.
