Second exhibition to take place at Maison&Objet in September

Pentik’s fifty-year journey of Nordic beauty, craft, and connection

Pentik, the renowned Finnish home interior brand, continues to bring Nordic design to the world, combining deep-rooted craftsmanship, artistic flair, and sustainable production in every creation. As the brand prepares to attend the Maison&Objet Fair in Paris this September for the second time, it marks a significant step in its international journey while staying true to its Lapland origins.

Founded in 1971 by artist Anu Pentik, the company began in the remote town of Posio, where nature inspired the birth of a ceramics studio that would evolve into a full lifestyle brand. 'Pentik was born – own, genuine and beautiful,' the company recalls.

Today, Pentik operates 30 brick-and-mortar stores in Finland and maintains ceramic manufacturing at the northernmost ceramics factory in Scandinavia. 'We also manufacture our ceramic tableware in northern Finland sustainably,' the brand states, underscoring its commitment to local craftsmanship and ecological responsibility.

A major highlight of the current collection is Lohkare, a mouth-blown glass vase designed by Lasse Kovanen, inspired by ice cubes and rugged natural rock formations. The design recently won First Prize at the 2024 Finnish Gardening Fair, reflecting its resonance with both form and function. 'Stones and rocks moulded by the sea capture your gaze and enchant you with their irregular geometric shapes,' says Pentik. 'The cliff below your window.'

Alongside ceramics and glass, Pentik showcases fabrics painted using tempera and watercolour techniques, digitised by the brand's in-house designers to create personal, expressive home textiles. 'The assortment has stunning tempera and acquarelle painted fabrics designed by our designers by computer support into personal home textiles,' the brand adds.

Pentik's design philosophy is rooted in the beauty and simplicity of Nordic living: 'At Pentik, authenticity is at the heart of everything we do.' The Tuntu ceramic tableware collection, produced in Posio, exemplifies this ethos, described by the company as 'full of northern feeling,' with each piece being hand-dipped and unique. 'The manufacture of the tableware requires manual work and therefore each Tuntu dish is unique.'

Also featured in the collection are pieces such as Kaamoskivi, the original candleholder Anu Pentik created using sand from nearby Lake Livojärvi, and Saaga, a collection that reflects Lapland's wildlife with playful reindeer motifs. 'Stories from a Nordic home,' the brand notes.

Pentik's participation in Maison&Objet is a proud moment, representing a continuation of its founder's mission to bring nature, craft, and storytelling into homes around the world. 'The collection is reflecting Nordic design with passion with a unique story Mrs. Anu Pentik as a founder,' the brand emphasises.

'Thank you for the professional media. Highly appreciate it,' a Pentik spokesperson added, highlighting interest in media collaboration ahead of the Paris fair. 'Would it be possible to have our attending in your retailing before the fair or during?'
