Kolon returns to Copenhagen with crafted legacy and future vision

Nearly five decades after it first opened a showroom in the heart of the Danish capital, family-owned cabinetmaking company Kolon returns to central Copenhagen for 3daysofdesign 2025. Teaming up with lighting brand Anour and design studio Norm Architects, Kolon reintroduces its design heritage through the exhibition Of This Place, a celebration of Danish craftsmanship, quality materials, and bespoke solutions.

Founded in 1972, Kolon is renowned for its signature Kolon hinge, recognisable by its two distinctive dots, and its commitment to sustainably made, long-lasting cabinetry. As an FSC-certified company holding Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), Kolon places environmental responsibility at the core of its operations, crafting custom kitchens and cabinets for private clients, businesses, and public institutions.

The Of This Place exhibition at Bredgade 28A is more than a return, it is a reflection of Kolon's enduring values. "Of This Place is a dedication to local craftsmanship, quality, natural materials, and bespoke solutions, highlighting a commitment to Danish craftsmanship rooted in tradition and refined through innovation," the company states. This ethos is physically manifested in the thoughtfully curated showroom, co-designed with Anour and realised by Norm Architects.

Kolon's design philosophy draws from its deep respect for heritage, but never stops evolving. Since 1976, the Kolon hinge has stood as a symbol of precision and resilience. "Since 1976, the signature KOLON hinge has represented strength and precision, embodying quality," the company affirms. Their preference for natural materials isn't just aesthetic—it's an environmental choice that underscores their sustainability vision: "Natural materials bring nature into design, while bespoke solutions are crafted for the individual and the specific."

At 3daysofdesign, Kolon joins a broader dialogue on sustainable, meaningful design with other exhibitors such as Wendelbo, LyZadie Design Studio, and We Do Wood, all united in their pursuit of excellence in craftsmanship and ecological responsibility. The exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to engage with brands that view design as both a functional art and a cultural narrative.

Kolon's collaboration with Anour, known for minimalistic lighting, and Norm Architects, experts in sensory spaces, reflects a shared vision for simplicity, beauty, and relevance. Together, they create a showroom that honours Kolon's origins while projecting its sustainable future.

Returning to its roots in Kongens Nytorv while looking forward, Kolon's Of This Place invites reflection on what it means to design with purpose and place. With craftsmanship that endures and a commitment to progress, Kolon reaffirms its role in shaping Danish design for the next generation.
