Fresh roots take hold in wake of insolvency for decorative firm

A swift business rescue has been achieved just months after an insolvency filing, with a buyer group stepping in to secure ongoing operations and safeguard jobs. The investor consortium, which includes key figures from the company's existing leadership, has committed to investing in long-term growth and stability.

The business in question is Eurosand GmbH, a former subsidiary of the insolvent Ziegler Group. The acquisition was managed by insolvency administrator Volker Böhm of Schultze & Braun, who confirmed the sale to a five-person investor group, including main backer Stefan Schmid, Managing Director Gerald Mack, Operations Manager Andreas Fryges, and former Head of Dyeing and Finishing Christian Baudler. A fifth investor remains unnamed.

The company will now operate under the name "Eurosand 2.0 GmbH". Böhm described the sale as "good news" for customers and employees, allowing the business to "continue without transitional disruptions and without the strain of an insolvent parent company". The transaction value remains undisclosed.

Mack stated that the new owners intend to strengthen market position and invest in development, noting that stakeholders "deserve to see things move forward" after months of uncertainty.

Founded in 1999 and based in Weiden, Bavaria, the firm manufactures decorative scatter products such as coloured sand, glass stones, plastic diamonds, and nature-based décor. Eurosand reported revenues of €6.4 million in 2023.

The sale represents the penultimate transaction in the dismantling of Ziegler Group's operations, following a series of insolvency filings since November 2024. Only one company, Zehender Keramik GmbH, remains on the market, with a contract expected soon.
