New Ambientec Gallery Tokyo opens inside AXIS Building

Founded in Yokohama and led by president Yoshinori Kuno, Ambientec, an international brand of high-quality portable lighting with established technical expertise in the development and production of underwater photography equipment, has recently inaugurated Ambientec Gallery Tokyo, in the heart of the Roppongi district—epicenter of Japanese creativity.
The new exhibition space has been created on the second floor of the AXIS Building, an exclusive destination for contemporary Japanese design, made iconic by the famous staircase designed by master Shiro Kuramata ("Kuramata Staircase"), considered a true work of architectural art.

On the occasion of the opening, the product display was also extended to the fourth floor of the same building with a temporary setup, aimed at conveying a vision of lighting that goes beyond functional use to create sensory and poetic experiences. This know-how, already internationally recognised thanks to events like Salone del Mobile.Milano, was further explored during the opening event through a talk with the designers of each collection and Yoshinori Kuno, the brand's founder and representative. It was also an opportunity to present, for the first time to the Japanese public, four new collections previewed at Euroluce 2025, part of the Milan furniture fair: Vosco, designed by Nao Tamura; Barcarolle, by Yoshiki Matsuyama; Still, by Ryuichi Kozeki; Hymn Pro, by Hiroto Yoshizoe.

Ambientec Gallery was conceived as a contact point for both the public and professionals, with the aim of strengthening the dialogue between the brand, the market, and design culture. The interior design is by Koichiro Oniki, who also designed the Yokohama showroom and the stand for Euroluce 2025. His vision—interpreting the product as a sculptural object—has been translated into a display inspired by the structure of a scientific showcase that, through a laboratory-like approach, allows visitors to experience how the light performs in real environments.

Accent lighting is provided by 5,000 Kelvin pin-spots, similar to stage projectors, capable of highlighting the material detail and sculptural nature of Ambientec's lamps—even in full daylight.

Accessible via the Kuramata Staircase and overlooking the central atrium through large glass windows, the gallery space visually presents itself as a true art gallery, thanks to its formal rigor and specially designed modular elements that house the entire Ambientec collection.
Behind the main display area are two more intimate rooms, finished with plaster, wood, and other richly textured materials, designed to convey a sense of softness. A high counter and a round, dining-style table contribute to a warm and welcoming atmosphere, where visitors can enjoy an immersive and tangible user experience. (Architect: Koichiro Oniki)
