French furniture market faces continued decline in Spring 2025

Between 2022 and 2025, the French furniture market value in April is projected to decline by nearly 14%, over €160 million. The spring period—particularly March and April—is increasingly becoming a quiet season for the sector. According to the latest economic report by IPEA (Institute for Foresight and Furniture Studies), April 2025 saw a -2.8% drop in activity compared to April 2024, following a -1.4% decline in March. This marks the third consecutive April of decline, with previous drops of 3.1% in 2023 and 9% in 2024.

Product-wise, no major surprises emerged. The kitchen segment continues to perform better than most, followed by upholstered furniture, which showed the smallest decline in April. Garden furniture remains weak despite warmer weather. Some specialist retailers in kitchens, bedding, and living rooms reported growth. Cumulative results for January–April 2025 show a -3.5% decrease, and IPEA warns that further declines are likely in May, reinforcing March–May as a transition period for furniture purchases.
