Anyone visiting Rivièra Maison's showroom in Amsterdam literally steps into another world. A world where autumn and winter come together in warm atmospheres, iconic styling and elegant details. The new collection for 2025 shows how the internationally recognised interior label responds to changing consumer behaviour, digitises the interior design process and combines international growth with craftsmanship and family values. Founder Henk Teunissen explains how Rivièra Maison continues to distinguish itself in a busy interior design sector, with surprising choices and a clear vision for the future. "We have a clear identity as a brand, and we are sticking to it," he emphasises.© Rivièra Maison
What characterises the autumn and winter 2025 collection in terms of theme, style and materials?
"We are introducing two autumn themes that transition into two winter atmospheres. The warm, inviting atmosphere of the Woodlands Cabin theme - with an autumnal colour palette, rustic ceramics, wood and nostalgic accents - evokes the charm of a cosy woodland cottage. This atmosphere flows effortlessly into classic Christmas décor, with iconic reds and greens in which tartan plays a prominent role. Opposite this is the Aspen theme, which is inspired by the retro-luxury ski scene and the atmosphere of a stylish winter chalet. This collection features timeless pieces with silver accents, soft fur-like textiles and refined details that combine to create an elegant and warm ensemble." © Rivièra Maison
How does Riviera Maison support customers in furnishing a complete interior?
"Definitely. Our colleagues are ready to help customers realise their dream interior. In all our shops, we offer free interior advice, where our advisers create customised 3D visualisations. These are fully tailored to the customer's needs and spaces. We now also offer this tool for our dealers, so they can present the full range without having everything physically in stock. More than ever, customers are looking for advice rather than buying individual pieces of furniture."© Rivièra Maison
How is sustainability reflected in your collection?
"Most of our collection is unique and handmade. For our furniture, we mainly use recycled wood, and we have been doing this for more than 20 years - even before sustainability was on everyone's agenda."
How is your international growth developing, and what is the role of foreign shops?
"International growth is steady and targeted, mainly through wholesale. Germany is an important market for us, but we are also seeing strong growth in Eastern Europe - especially Poland. In addition, we are again active in the UK after years and are expanding in Scandinavia. For us, foreign shops are more than just points of sale; they are experience locations where customers are immersed in the world of Rivièra Maison. This not only helps with sales growth, but also with building a strong brand image. In the US, we currently have two outlets, but they are not yet a significant source of sales."© Rivièra Maison
What market challenges are you facing and how are you responding to them?
"Like many retailers, we are facing inflation, changing consumer behaviour and higher logistics costs. Customers are more conscious in their purchases and are looking for quality and experience more than ever. We respond to this with a carefully composed collection, personal advice and an efficient approach to stock and transport. Flexibility and customer focus are crucial to remain agile. We consciously opt for more wholesale and are phasing out our own retail. Only shops that offer real added value as a brand showcase will we keep."© Rivièra Maison
How does Riviera Maison stand out in a competitive market, despite copycat behaviour?
"Our design team develops the entire collection in-house. Every item is thoughtful and connects to trends and customer needs. What sets us apart is that we show how versatile modern country living can be; a balance between classic elements and contemporary design. We have a recognisable DNA, and you notice that customers are looking for a touch of romance again, but in a new look. As for copycat behaviour: of course it is annoying, but it also shows that we have put something good in the market."© Rivièra Maison
Your son Sjors is COO and your daughter Bess is responsible for design. What does it mean for Rivièra Maison to carry the brand together as a family?
"It is extremely valuable to continue building the brand as a family. Sjors, as COO, brings structure, innovation and a fresh business perspective. Bess strengthens our design direction with her creative vision and sense of style. They complement each other - and me - well with their own talents. Their commitment and passion give a lot of confidence for the future."© Rivièra Maison
How is your omnichannel strategy developing further?
"Online and offline reinforce each other. The webshop offers convenience and reach, while physical shops and dealers provide experience and personal contact. Customers often orientate online, but gain inspiration or complete their purchase in a shop. The balance within our own retail is gradually shifting towards online, but physical shops remain essential for brand experience and advice. It's ultimately about a seamless customer journey, regardless of the channel."© Rivièra Maison
What do you expect from the interior design industry in the coming year?
"For the coming year, we expect consumers to make even more conscious choices. Quality, sustainability and experience are key. We clearly notice that customers are buying less, but choosing more consciously. People are looking for brands that are authentic and reliable."
What message would you like to convey to interior design professionals and retailers about this new collection?
"This collection is all about experience, craftsmanship and distinctive design. We are convinced that a visit to our showroom in Amsterdam will not only provide inspiration, but also show how versatile and commercially strong the new country or classic living can be."© Rivièra Maison
