Spanish furniture industry sees 6.7% export boost in early 2025

Spanish furniture exports experienced solid growth in the first quarter of 2025, rising by 6.7% compared to the same period in 2024. According to the National Association of Furniture Manufacturers and Exporters of Spain (ANIEME), international sales reached a total of €786 million between January and March. These results signal a strong recovery following last year's first-quarter decline of 2.7%, based on trade data provided by Estacom.

'International sales in the Spanish furniture sector continued to grow at a very good pace in the first quarter of 2025, recovering significantly compared to the figures for the same period of the previous year,' said Jorge Mariner, President of ANIEME. 'In recent years, Spanish companies in the furniture sector have made a tremendous effort to adapt to the new circumstances and global context, which is changing daily and which, in any case, affects international sales. At Anieme, we once again draw attention to the importance of boosting investment in the international promotion of Spanish furniture brands, as well as the need for greater support from public bodies to achieve this goal.'

Leading the regional charge, Catalonia and the Valencian Community together accounted for 53.4% of total Spanish furniture exports in Q1 2025, maintaining their positions as the top exporting autonomous communities.

France remained the largest destination market, representing 27.3% of all Spanish furniture exports, with sales exceeding €214.6 million and a growth rate of 3.1%. Meanwhile, the United States continued its upward trajectory, posting a 7.6% increase and securing fourth position among Spain's export markets with €47.2 million in purchases. ANIEME described the U.S. as 'a market that must continue to be strengthened with targeted promotional efforts due to the business opportunities it presents.'

Several other European markets also showed notable growth in Spanish furniture imports. The Netherlands led with a 12% increase, followed by Italy (+9.5%), Germany (+9.4%), Portugal (+5.7%), and the United Kingdom (+7.9%). Notably, the report highlighted that not all Spanish furniture entering the UK remains there: 'Much furniture is ordered from there for projects developed in other regions, such as the Middle East.'

Outside Europe, Morocco and Mexico both reported impressive year-on-year growth of 24.8%. ANIEME attributed these surges to ongoing furnishing projects in both countries. Remarkably, Algeria recorded a 392% increase in imports of Spanish furniture, propelling it to ninth place among global destinations. This dramatic rise follows the lifting of trade restrictions and the activation of a free trade agreement with the European Union.

Furniture imports into Spain also grew significantly in the first quarter, rising by 18.4% year-on-year. This placed the trade coverage rate at 66.9%, according to ANIEME's report.

The Spanish furniture sector is now looking to build on this momentum, urging both private and public stakeholders to invest in sustained international growth and promotion.
