The Museum Collection by the Scandinavian design icon since 1949, String Furniture, is a thoughtful blend of Scandinavian design tradition and modern-day functionality. Created in collaboration with the Stockholm-based design and architecture studio TAF Studio, the collection was originally developed for the Swedish National museum, combining everyday utility with quiet elegance. In 2025, String Furniture is delighted to expand its collection with bold new colourways.

The Museum Shelf was the first piece in the collection, created to serve as a console shelf in the museum space. It was later expanded into a full collection that blends industrial inspiration with Scandinavian minimalism. Despite the unique form of each piece, the entire collection is functional, yet elegant. With clean lines, clever proportions, and a timeless feel, the Museum Collection is perfect for homes, galleries, and public settings alike, offering design that is both purposeful and enduring.
Bo Hellberg, CMO at String Furniture, notes: 'Since the launch of the first design in this pioneering collection, the Museum Shelf, we have expanded the range to include the Sidetable and, more recently, the Candle Holder.'
Introducing the Museum Collection in black
In 2025, String Furniture is delighted to expand its Museum Collection with a bold new colour – Black. Introduced in April, the Museum Sidetable, Shelf and Candle Holder are now available in a deep black finish, adding a striking contrast to the collection's clean, functional aesthetic. Designed in collaboration with the TAF Studio, the Stockholm-based design and architecture practice, each piece in the Museum Collection adapts to a variety of spaces.
As a collection, Museum seamlessly pairs flexibility with functionality. With a height-adjustable mechanism, the Museum Sidetable seamlessly fits alongside any sofa, kitchen table, or bedside. In a similar vein, the adjustable height mechanism in the Museum Candle Holder allows for varying candle heights across a table or mantelpiece.
Discussing the design, Gabriella Lenke & Mattias Ståhlbom, TAF Studio, comments, 'We designed the original Museum Collection for the newly renovated National museum that reopened in 2018. One of the results was a console shelf that would later become the Museum Shelf – the first piece of this longstanding collection. Besides being both beautiful and easily placed with its hidden attachment, the delicately shaped construction in aluminium and steel makes the shelf exceptionally strong.'
Bo Hellberg, CMO at String Furniture, states, 'In 2025, we are delighted to give our Museum Collection a contemporary update with this sleek black finish. Whilst unique in their own form, the same design aesthetic runs throughout the pieces creating a wonderfully cohesive collection. Gabriella Lenke and Mattias Ståhlbom are free thinkers. In their work with interiors and product design, they continually challenge traditional definitions. The Museum Collection embodies their design philosophy, and we are proud to continually evolve this collection with the introduction of the new distinct black colourway in 2025.'
Alongside the new Black colourway, String Furniture launches its Museum Candle Holder in Orange and its Sidetable and Shelf in Green.
