Ligne Roset unveils "Kobold Sofa" in world-first collaboration with Reishi™ by MycoWorks

Ligne Roset has announced a pioneering collaboration with biotechnology innovator MycoWorks, marking the first large-scale integration of the groundbreaking biomaterial Reishi™ into luxury interior design. Presented during the Onirium event at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Kobold sofa, designed by Erwan Bouroullec, represents a major milestone in the industrial application of sustainable materials.

Reishi™, developed by MycoWorks using its patented Fine Mycelium™ technology, is crafted from mycelium, the root structure of fungi, and offers a new category of natural material. Now available at industrial scale, it combines aesthetic elegance with durability and performance, offering designers a true alternative to traditional animal-based or synthetic materials.

'At MycoWorks, we believe that art inspires science, and that mycelium can redefine the future of design,' said Sophia Wang, co-founder of MycoWorks. 'The integration of Reishi™ into the Ligne Roset collection is a powerful demonstration that sustainable luxury is not a concept of tomorrow—it is a reality today.'

Chosen for its unmatched properties, Reishi™ brings a series of benefits to high-end furniture:

  • Durability and flexibility: It withstands daily wear while maintaining a supple elasticity, ideal for interior applications.
  • Natural beauty: Each sheet features unique veining and organic patterns, reminiscent of leather or marble.
  • Aging gracefully: Reishi™ develops a patina over time, enhancing its appearance while preserving its structure.
  • Scalability: Unlike many biomaterials, it is available at industrial volume, meeting the production demands of leading design houses.

The Kobold sofa, now part of the Ligne Roset 2025 catalogue, serves as a modular and multifunctional seating concept designed to reflect sustainability without compromising aesthetics or comfort. The piece is central to Ligne Roset's mission of ethical design, made even more relevant by its pairing with Reishi™.

'We have been waiting for years for a natural and sustainable material that meets our quality standards and our customers' expectations. Our partnership with MycoWorks strengthens our commitment to ethical and sustainable development, while upholding the highest level of quality for which the Roset Group is known. By embracing innovation, it also offers us the opportunity to redefine the legacy of Made in France design,' said Antoine Roset, Managing Director of Ligne Roset.

Installed in a lush, green scenography at Palais de Tokyo, the sofa invites audiences into a future where nature and design coexist seamlessly. The installation not only captures the sensory richness of Reishi™, but also sets a precedent for sustainable interiors on a global scale.

This collaboration underscores a shared vision between Ligne Roset and MycoWorks, to lead the design world into an era where luxury and sustainability are no longer in conflict, but fundamentally intertwined.
