Fire safety concerns have prompted urgent action following updated advice from the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) regarding certain heat pump dryers. Consumers are now being told not to use the affected machines until a full inspection is carried out, due to the risk of fire caused by potential internal short circuits.

This updated guidance has led manufacturers to reissue safety notices to ensure no affected users are overlooked. Among the companies involved is Caple, which has confirmed it began contacting customers in mid-January and is now reinforcing the warning after the OPSS revised its original guidance.
Caple stated that it is 'recontacting any retailers and consumers that have not replied to the first round of notices,' ensuring all inspections and necessary modifications are expedited. The company has also published further information online and reshared details across its social media platforms.
In addition to Caple, the OPSS warning applies to dryers made by Hoover, Candy, Haier, Lamona, Baumatic, Montpellier, and Iberna. These warnings form part of a broader campaign to prevent potential house fires linked to these appliances.
Caple's managing director, Danny Lay, expressed appreciation for media support in raising public awareness. He noted that the industry trade press, particularly journalist George Dean, played a vital role in amplifying the message and supporting the resolution process: 'We really appreciate the support and assistance in getting this message circulated.'
With safety as the top priority, manufacturers and regulators are now working swiftly to mitigate risks and safeguard customers from the hidden dangers posed by these faulty appliances.
