Søstrene Grene sets sights on growth with opening of new stores in Italy and Poland

Søstrene Grene has announced plans to expand into Poland and Italy in 2026, marking a significant step toward its ambition of reaching 500 stores by 2027. The Danish home décor brand currently operates over 330 locations across Europe and sees entering new markets as essential to its growth strategy.

Italy has been identified as a key target due to its scale and retail maturity. Co-owner and Group CEO Mikkel Vaupell Grene noted that the Italian market is comparable in potential to Germany and the UK, where the company aims to establish 100 stores in each. He described Italy as "one of the largest retail markets in Europa" and highlighted the nation's strong appreciation for Nordic design. The brand is particularly interested in locations across both high streets and shopping centres.

Poland, by contrast, represents a new frontier for the company as it explores Eastern Europe for the first time. Grene acknowledged the unique challenge this poses but expressed optimism about the market's size and modern retail infrastructure. 'We must spend some time getting to understand the dynamics,' he said, but added that Poland offers "a large market with a huge retail potential" and some of Europe's most attractive shopping centres.

The expansion reflects Søstrene Grene's broader strategy of strengthening its European presence through carefully selected new territories. The company's product development and design ethos continue to resonate with consumers, especially those drawn to minimalist Nordic aesthetics. As the brand moves forward with its international rollout, Poland and Italy stand as major milestones on the path to becoming a 500-store network.
