The UK's Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued an urgent warning over fire risks linked to 27 models of heat pump tumble dryers manufactured by several well-known brands, including Hoover, Candy, Haier, Lamona, Baumatic, Montpellier, Iberna and Caple.

All affected models, reportedly produced in Turkey, have been found to violate the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. The OPSS stated that the fault lies in the potential for "an internal short circuit to occur within the tumble dryer during normal use", which "can cause the tumble dryer to ignite, causing a fire".
Consumers are advised to "stop using the products immediately", switch them off, and unplug them if safe to do so. Manufacturers have launched a modification programme, urging affected customers to contact them directly for further action.
Notable recalled models include multiple variants from Hoover, such as the HTDBWH7A1TCE-80 and BATDH7A1TCEB-80, Candy's CTDB H7A1TBE-80 and BCTDH7A1TCEB-80, Haier's HDB4 H7A2TBERX80, as well as Lamona units LAM8876 through LAM8879. Additional impacted models come from Baumatic (BBTDH7A1TE-80), Montpellier (MIHP 70 and MIHP 75), Iberna (BITDH7A1TE-80), and Caple (TDi4000 and TDi4001).
This development highlights growing concerns over appliance safety and manufacturing standards. Customers are encouraged to check model and serial numbers carefully to determine if their dryer is included in the recall.
The OPSS continues to monitor the situation and liaise with manufacturers to ensure modifications are implemented and risks mitigated.
