Karl Lagerfeld Maison expands sculptural "Wellen" collection

Karl Lagerfeld Maison has announced the expansion of its acclaimed Wellen furniture collection with K/WELLEN, a bold series of 12 new statement pieces that encapsulate Karl Lagerfeld's legacy of minimalist elegance, sculptural design, and visionary modernity.

Presented at Milan Design Week in the Karl Lagerfeld Maison showroom at Via Passione 8, the expanded collection explores silhouettes and materials that reflect the late designer's distinctive aesthetic. "Wellen", the German word for "waves", launched in 2024 to critical acclaim. The new evolution continues to blend creativity, craftsmanship, and effortless sophistication across a refined range of furniture, accessories, and sculptural forms.

The new designs integrate the iconic "K" motif into their structures, offering a subtle yet recognisable tribute to Lagerfeld's identity. Key highlights include side tables, a mirror, shelves, and a sideboard crafted from a single sheet of welded aluminium, creating a seamless, looping form that is both technically complex and visually elegant.

'One of Karl's many incredible talents was the ability to make complex designs seem light and effortless, and this Wellen collection is a testament to that idea,' said Caroline Lebar, SVP Image & Communication at Karl Lagerfeld. 'These exceptional pieces blend form, functionality and playfulness, each able to stand out while also flowing seamlessly together. Similar to an exhibition in an art gallery, K/WELLEN is designed with intention, beauty and timeless sophistication.'

Materials were carefully curated to reflect Lagerfeld's affinity for metallics and chrome. Aluminium in matte gunmetal, titanium, and glossy raw finishes enhances a sense of light and depth, allowing each piece to serve either as a bold centrepiece or a discreet design element.

'Abstract and artistic, this season is inspired by Karl's connection to architecture and sculptural objects,' noted Toan Nguyen, the designer invited to contribute his expertise to the collection. 'Building on last season, which was heavily rooted in upholstery, the expanded collection introduces aluminium in a range of refined finishes, matte gunmetal, matte titanium, and raw aluminium with a glossy effect, alongside mirrored surfaces. These are more than functional furnishings; they are intriguing gestures of craftsmanship and unique objects of art.'

The result is a compelling interplay between form and material, realised with architectural precision and millimetre-level detailing. Each piece speaks to a larger vision: furniture not just as functional design, but as artful composition.
