Green growth fuels fresh investment push for Ikea in France

At the 2025 "Choose France" summit, held at the Palace of Versailles, global furniture leader Ikea announced an additional €100 million investment in France, on top of its previously pledged €1.2 billion for the 2023–2026 period. The new funds, allocated for 2025–2030, aim to support both business development and environmental sustainability in line with the Paris Agreement.

The company stated that the plan will help reduce its carbon footprint while expanding its regional footprint. Initiatives include replacing cooling systems in 23 stores, expanding wind farms with updated turbines and solar panels, and revamping store car parks with mixed-use solar and green spaces. It also highlighted recent projects such as the acquisition of the Italie 2 shopping centre in Paris, a new logistics platform in Limay, and a solar farm in Langeron. Additionally, a RetourMat mattress recycling facility was opened in Aveyron.

'France is an important market,' said Jesper Brodin, CEO of the Ingka Group, which operates Ikea Retail, Ingka Centres, and Ingka Investments. He noted that since the Paris Agreement, Ikea has grown its business by 23.7% while cutting its climate footprint by 30.1%.

As part of its omnichannel strategy to reach more consumers, Ikea France will also open a new "Design and Order Workshop" in Pau on 5 June. This follows similar openings in Toulouse, La Rochelle, Paris Cardinet, and the Paris Italie 2 store since the start of the fiscal year FY25.

The company said the new investment underscores its commitment to becoming "ever more sustainable, accessible and affordable" while maintaining design and operational excellence.
