In 2024, Coulisse, the global window coverings specialist, inaugurated a new 15,000 m² warehouse in Enter, the Netherlands. This facility marks the first phase of a broader master plan to future-proof its logistics through scalable, partially automated infrastructure.

Driven by strong growth and increased inventory needs, accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic, the new logistics centre replaces fragmented storage with a centralised, efficient solution. 'We were forced to rent an additional 6,000 m² of external storage,' said Supply Chain Director Thijs Prins, highlighting the urgent need for expansion beyond the existing 10,000 m².
Consultancy firm Groenewout was engaged to assess feasibility, develop detailed plans, and oversee implementation. Their analysis addressed complex product dimensions, potential for mechanisation, and labour requirements through detailed CAPEX and OPEX modelling. Operations Manager Rob Looman praised their collaborative style: 'They listen closely, make suggestions and are flexible.'
The result blends conventional and mechanised systems. Euro pallet racking enables multi-level order picking, increasing capacity while reducing replenishment. For long items like six-metre aluminium blinds, an automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) was introduced, using cassettes and cranes for efficient handling.
The building reflects Coulisse's design ethos and community values. Locally made custom bricks clad the exterior, crafted by ten local bricklayers over six months to emulate the texture of roller blinds.
A second phase, set to begin in 2026, will see the addition of an 18m-high automated high-bay warehouse. With a capacity of 99,000 units, the system will use RFID and cranes for fully automated storage and retrieval, significantly enhancing ergonomics, accuracy, and speed.
Coulisse also upgraded its warehouse management system (WMS) to support future operations. Prins concluded: 'When everything is operational, we hope to ship all orders not only quickly, within 24 hours, but also error-free.'
