Since its launch over a decade ago, Design Shanghai has been a pivotal platform for emerging and established Chinese design voices. Domestic brands, from global names to independent studios, have chosen the fair to unveil new collections and bold concepts. The show is widely acknowledged for its authoritative position in the international design and architecture sectors.

'Over the past 12 years, Design Shanghai has pioneered Chinese design exhibitions, witnessing modern design development in China. During this time, the Chinese design industry has entered a vibrant and flourishing era, with numerous designers and brands emerging in the market and expressing their voices,' said Zhuo Tan, Event Director of Design Shanghai. 'As we endeavour to shape the ecosystem of Asian design exhibitions, Design Shanghai remains dedicated to the Chinese design industry and provides resolute support. This year, we continue to spearhead the industry, both as a trailblazer and a practitioner, leading the trends of modern design.'

2025 Special features and highlights
This year's edition includes seven curated features, each celebrating the ingenuity and depth of Chinese design:

  • TALENTS (5th Anniversary) supports young designers under the theme "Confront Conflicts", questioning how creatives can respond to increasing global tensions. Designers such as Yif Design, Xiangzhi, AbidJaved, and Yusheng will exhibit responses across diverse mediums.
  • neooold, curated by Chen Min, also marks its 5th year. The theme "Mass Wonders" honours handcrafted mastery through 20 young artisans applying traditional skills like lacquerware, ceramics, and weaving. Reflecting the Chinese proverb "温故而知新" (learning from the past to understand the present), neooold celebrates the evolution of traditional craft into contemporary art.
  • The inaugural Design Shanghai Collectible Design & Art feature presents limited-edition works from China and abroad, spotlighting artists and galleries including Lacquer Chengyan, Studio M.Noir, and Ivory Gate Gallery, amidst China's rising collector culture.
  • Made in Jingdezhen showcases the iconic ceramics hub's reinvention as a design capital. Artists reinterpret ancient techniques using modern materials like lacquer, glass, silver, and gold, with studios such as Moonline, borges, and Ciireals leading the display.
  • Re:Materialize, co-curated with Róng Design Library, explores "material-driven design" across themes like Present Optimism and Harmonious Coexistence. It invites over 40 material brands and designers to investigate how design can confront contemporary challenges such as sustainability, ageing, and technological change.

With over 2,600 brands from more than 30 countries having exhibited at the fair to date and 640,000+ industry attendees, Design Shanghai continues to serve as a nexus of creativity, commerce, and global design dialogue.
