Swedish Consumers' Association: 'Ten major companies risk large fines due to inadequate pricing information'

Ten Swedish companies will be fined after Black Friday for price manipulation. 'They have all made mistakes before and have been subject to our measures,' says Maja Lindstrand, a lawyer at the Consumer Agency.

The Consumer Ombudsman has issued warnings to ten companies for misleading pricing practices related to Black Friday. One of the companies, for example, advertised a winter jacket with a 22 percent discount, while in reality, it was being sold at a higher price than before.

'As consumers, we want to feel like we're getting a good deal. That's why we're particularly drawn to red prices, promotions, and high discounts,' said Maja Lindstrand in a press release.

The ten companies in question are Blomsterlandet, Bygghemma, Nakd, Nordic Nest, Power, Soffadirekt, Stadium, Webhallen, XXL, and Åhléns. The total fine amounts to 22 million SEK.

According to the Price Information Act, when a product is sold at a reduced price, the company must state the lowest price at which the item was sold in the past 30 days.
Discounts in percentages or kronor must be based on that previous lowest price.
