At Salone del Mobile.Milano 2025, Italian furniture manufacturer Mara Srl introduced the latest evolution of its Typo seating collection: the Typo Lounge Chair & Ottoman, designed in collaboration with AMDL CIRCLE, the studio founded by renowned architect Michele De Lucchi.

This new lounge version expanded upon the original Typo chair, preserving its recognisable silhouette while significantly enhancing comfort, ergonomics, and contemporary appeal. 'Typo Lounge is Mara's new product designed by AMDL CIRCLE,' the company confirmed. 'As evolution of the Typo chair, this lounge version maintains its original design, enhancing its comfort and ergonomics along with an extremely contemporary appeal.'
The defining feature of the Typo Lounge is its metal frame, crafted from square-section steel tubes. The visual and structural innovation lay in the intentional deformation of the steel. 'By bending a square-section steel tube along the diagonal, the material deforms, curling and sharply creasing.' This manipulation created what the designers described as an intentional flaw, 'the intentional and sought-after "error" that is the soul of the project.'
This "error", a precise bend and crease in the steel, produced a graphic, sculptural structure that supports a broad seat and angled backrest, culminating in a crisscross base that lends the piece a distinctive modernist flair. 'The metal tube, worked and bent with precision, is transformed into a characterising graphic feature: a sequence of modernist lines that supports the backrest and the wide seat, culminating in a crisscross base with a strong visual impact.'
To complete the experience, the chair is upholstered in soft, comfortable padding, complemented by a matching ottoman. Together, they offer an inviting solution for lounges, offices, hospitality settings and homes. 'A soft upholstery amplifies the feeling of comfort, transforming the new Typo Lounge along with its soft ottoman into an ideal piece of furniture for moments of relaxation and wellbeing.'
The Typo Lounge was designed with versatility in mind. 'This new version, it is already a contemporary icon intended for a variety of contexts from the workplace, to hospitality and residential - with unchanged character.'
Mara and AMDL CIRCLE approached the project with a shared commitment to innovation and industrial precision. As the AMDL CIRCLE project team stated: 'A mistake, which together with Mara, whom we share with a constant drive for innovation, we managed to keep controlled, through a carefully refined technique that generates it, so to guarantee a mass production of the object.'
Through the Typo Lounge, Mara once again demonstrated its mastery of metalwork and its ability to elevate everyday objects into design icons, celebrating the tension between imperfection and precision in a form both functional and sculptural.
