From theater to table lamp: Palazzi Metal pays tribute to Aldo Rossi

During the Milan Design Week 2025, the Italian design duo Servomuto unveiled their latest creation: Palazzi Metal. The lamp was presented in the group exhibition Repertorio, organised by Galleria Nilufar at the Nilufar Depot on Viale Lancetti 34 in Milan.

Palazzi Metal is a reinterpretation of the original Palazzi lamp from 2018, which was executed in pleated fabric at the time. For this new version, Servomuto has chosen an industrial approach, using metal structures and mesh. The lamp still refers to its original inspiration: Il Teatro del Mondo by architect Aldo Rossi – a temporary, floating theater that symbolizes transience and memory.

The new version is characterized by an architectural approach, in which two voluminous forms are enclosed by metal rings. The fabric covering of the original gives way to an open metal grid, which filters the LED light in a play of light and shadow.

There are two variants of Palazzi Metal:

  • A lighter version with horizontal metal mesh, available in steel, brass, and copper.
  • A denser version with vertically woven mesh, reinforced with metal bands for extra emphasis on geometry. This version is available exclusively in steel.

Each lamp contains intentional imperfections – slight variations in curvature or tension in the mesh – that serve as an aesthetic signature. According to Servomuto, Palazzi Metal is not an ode to technical perfection, but a design that focuses on character and material expression.
