German furniture retailer introduces new store concept

Furniture retailer Möbel Hardeck is undertaking a strategic transformation, introducing a new store concept that emphasises inspiration, personalisation, and practical living ideas. The Bochum-based company is redesigning its retail spaces to create immersive environments that reflect real-life home settings, moving away from traditional furniture displays.

Managing Director Dirk Hardeck explained the approach: 'We're not simply reducing space – we're creating space for the diverse customisation options of our furniture, for inspiration and individual consultation.' The revamped concept includes lifelike room solutions and showcases from well-known brands like Musterring and Schöner Wohnen Kollektion.

In Bochum, Building 2 has already been modernised under this new vision, offering curated selections and experiential studios. The company's own brand, "Hardi", is now more closely integrated into these displays. Building 3 in Bochum is being prepared for third-party use, while the Bramsche branch is undergoing extensive renovations. Hardeck also confirmed a significant product range change, with reduced assortments making way for the updated concept across all locations.

The store redesign follows earlier developments, including recovery efforts after severe water damage at the Bochum site in January 2025 and a rebranding initiative centred on sustainability, introduced in February with the "Sustainable Furnishing" label. In addition, Hardeck continues its community engagement through fundraising and vocational training, recently welcoming 32 new apprentices across multiple locations.

As part of its broader realignment strategy, Hardeck has also announced the closure of its Hamburg branch.

By shifting focus from square footage to customer experience, Hardeck is positioning itself as a forward-thinking retailer aiming to inspire and support consumers in creating meaningful, individualised living spaces.
