Home shopping chain Casa has started its bankruptcy sale in all its Dutch branches. The trustee reports that the chances of a restart are slim, as no serious takeover candidates have come forward.
Trustee Bart Louwerier, responsible for the Dutch part of the bankruptcy, says a relaunch is now less likely. 'A shop is much more attractive with a stock, but that is now disappearing because of the sale,' Louwerier told RTL Z. Also in Belgium, where Casa has over 60 stores, the prospects of a restart are limited for now.© Casa
In the shops, the sale has started with a twenty per cent discount. According to Allard Lamers, branch manager in Hilversum, the discount immediately attracts more customers: 'What is not sold now will go out next week at an extra discount. As soon as the warehouse is empty, we will close for good.'
The retail chain had been in financial trouble for some time. Over 2023, Casa suffered a loss of over 49 million euros. Rising costs and fierce competition from discounters such as IKEA and Action played tricks on the company. In the Netherlands, Casa has eighteen branches, all of which are in bankruptcy.
