Denmark’s inflation holds steady in April

Inflation in Denmark remained unchanged in April 2025, with the annual growth in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) holding at 1.5 percent, according to new data from Statistics Denmark. The figure mirrors the rate recorded in March, maintaining a steady inflation trend across the country.

The main contributor to inflation continues to be the housing, electricity and heating category, with rent in particular exerting the greatest influence in April. When excluding energy and unprocessed food—core inflation—the index saw a slightly higher annual increase of 1.7 percent, up from 1.6 percent in March.

In terms of month-on-month movement, the CPI rose by 0.1 percent from March to April. This slight increase was driven predominantly by seasonal factors, notably higher costs for holiday home rentals, flights, and package holidays, which together pushed the index up by 0.32 percentage points.

In a broader European context, Denmark's EU-harmonised inflation rate (HICP) stood at 1.5 percent in April, in line with national figures. While EU-level April data has yet to be released, March figures indicated Denmark had one of the lowest inflation rates in the bloc. At that time, France (0.9%), Denmark (1.4%), and Luxembourg (1.5%) recorded the lowest rates, whereas Romania (5.1%), Hungary (4.8%), and Poland (4.4%) posted the highest.

The HICP is calculated to allow accurate comparisons across EU nations, excluding costs for owner-occupied housing—unlike Denmark's national CPI, which includes these using estimated rental values.

Eurostat is set to publish updated April figures for the EU-27 on 19 May 2025, providing further context to Denmark's economic position within the union.
