Loaf plots expansion for the years ahead

Furniture retailer Loaf is planning to double its store footprint over the next five years, with ambitions to open 10 new locations by 2030. The company has appointed GCW Property Consultants to support the expansion of its network of 'Shacks', bringing the total to 20 nationwide.

Loaf's Chief Commercial Officer, Theodore Sheppard, said the retailer's concept is focused on 'making laid-back furniture for people to kick-off their shoes and lead happier, more relaxed lives.' He added that insights gathered from customer data and visits across the UK are shaping the site selection strategy, which prioritises space, surrounding retailers, and commercial viability. 'It's not a "one size fits all" approach so it can take us time to ensure we have the right space,' he noted.

GCW partner Simon Horner commented, 'It's reassuring to see retailers like Loaf thriving and expanding despite challenges in the industry.'

Founded 17 years ago by Charlie Marshall as The Sleep Room, a digital-only bed business, Loaf rebranded in 2012 to reflect a broader offering of sofas, furniture, and home accessories. The brand underwent a major ownership shift in 2021 when it sold a majority stake to Blue Coast Capital for a reported £70m.

Loaf's most recent store openings include a 12,000 sq ft unit in Leeds, launched in October 2023, and a 4,000 sq ft site in Chiswick, which opened in September 2023. Target locations for future stores include Tunbridge Wells, Hampstead, Winchester, Blackheath, and Bath.
