Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has received approval to open a new concept store in York, marking the latest expansion of its Plan and Order Point (POP) format. The store will be located on Stirling Road at Clifton Moor Retail Park, taking over the former JYSK unit which closed in July 2024 following the end of its lease.

The POP concept is designed to support customers planning and purchasing fitted kitchens and bedroom furniture. IKEA explained that the store format has already been launched in Preston, Aintree and Stockport. According to a planning application, 'A POP is a new trading concept for IKEA' which focuses on personalised service and design support.
The York POP will feature consultation areas for customers to meet with sales representatives, along with display sections for materials, colours and finishes. Once a design is finalised, customers will complete their purchase in-store and have their products delivered to their home.
Following review, City of York Council approved signage proposals for the new site. IKEA confirmed it has secured the lease for the Clifton Moor location and expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, 'We look forward to sharing more details about our plans and the store's opening date in due course.'
