Nordic timber titan builds its empire through mass acquisitions

A Danish timber company has solidified its position as the leading wooden packaging company in the Nordic region through the acquisition of Karl Hedin Emballage, one of Sweden's largest wooden packaging firms.

The move follows Danish Wood Packaging purchase of Norwegian company Glomma Pall in October 2024. Karl Hedin Emballage operates 10 production sites in Sweden and one in Estonia, and reported a turnover of approximately DKK 410 million in 2024. The company employs 275 people and is known for its specialty packaging, including wooden boxes, pallets, and plywood solutions.

Peter Jensen, shareholder and chairman of DTE, stated: 'We share many similarities between the companies and welcome the employees to DTE. Karl Hedin Emballage's products, with a high proportion of specialty packaging, complement our existing business.'

The acquisition significantly boosts DTE's footprint across the Nordics. With the integration of the Swedish firm, DTE now employs around 900 people and projects a combined annual turnover of DKK 1.7 billion. The group operates 8 production facilities in Denmark, 9 in Norway, and now 3 in Sweden, alongside a trading company in Germany.

This strategic expansion enhances DTE's ability to serve a wider market and strengthens its role as a dominant force in the timber-based packaging industry. The company continues to focus on specialised, high-quality packaging solutions that support a broad industrial customer base across Northern Europe.
