Roche Bobois kicks off 2025 with record retail sales and striking global momentum

Roche Bobois SA reported consolidated revenue of €95.2 million in Q1 2025, marking a modest year-on-year increase of +1.1% at current exchange rates. This figure reflects resilience despite external delivery challenges in key markets.

The Group's robust performance was underpinned by exceptional momentum in retail sales from directly operated stores, which rose by 6.1% to reach €108.7 million – a historic quarterly record. 'The start of the year was marked by strong business momentum, reinforcing the positive trend observed at the close of 2024,' the company stated.

Despite the revenue lift, results were partially constrained by delivery delays in the United States and France. Customs slowdowns in the US and intermittent dockworker strikes affecting Cuir Center shipments in French ports resulted in an estimated €5.5 million shortfall in the quarter.

Regional revenue overview

  • Revenue in France increased by 1.6% to €27.8 million.
  • The rest of Europe held steady at €22.6 million, with gains in Belgium and Spain offset by lower German volumes.
  • The US/Canada region saw revenue fall 7.9% to €29.5 million, primarily due to the aforementioned delivery delays.
  • The Overseas region posted significant growth from €1.2 million in Q1 2024 to €4.9 million in Q1 2025, supported by the integration of China and higher franchise royalties.
  • Cuir Center, Roche Bobois' mid-range brand, recorded Q1 revenue of €9.4 million, a decline from €10.1 million in the same period last year. However, its directly operated stores reported retail sales of €12.0 million, up 11.5% year-on-year, continuing the positive momentum seen at the end of 2024.

March proved especially strong, delivering double-digit growth in retail sales (+10.7%) year-on-year, driven by significant gains in the US/Canada region (+19.6% in March alone) and in Europe (excluding France). This performance benefited from strategic price increases implemented in the US in February and April in anticipation of tariff risks and currency shifts.

The Group's order backlog, a key indicator of future revenue, grew sharply, climbing by €26.3 million over the quarter to €161.1 million as of 31 March 2025, compared to €134.7 million at year-end 2024. Total Q1 retail sales, including franchises, reached €172.7 million, up +2.6% at current exchange rates.

Outlook and expansion plans
Looking ahead, Roche Bobois plans to open new directly operated stores in Austin and Las Vegas (USA), Herblay (France), and Luxembourg in 2025. The Group has also upgraded its Grenoble location and is set to relocate its London Hampstead store to a more premium site by year-end.
