German inflation slows to 2.1% in April 2025

The Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis) has announced that the inflation rate for April 2025 is expected to be +2.1%, compared with the same month last year. This marks a slight decline from March's rate of +2.2%, continuing a gradual downward trend since January.

Month-on-month, consumer prices rose by 0.4% in April. The figures are provisional and based on data available up to the reporting date. The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), used across the Euro area for monetary policy purposes, is expected to show an annual increase of +2.2% and a monthly rise of +0.5%.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, remained stable at +2.9%, unchanged from January. This reflects persistent inflationary pressure in other parts of the economy, notably in services.

The services sector recorded a strong annual inflation rate of +3.9% in April, following +3.5% in March. In contrast, prices for goods increased by just +0.5%, down from +1.0% in the previous month.

The final inflation data for April 2025 will be published on 14 May 2025.
