Ikea has quietly launched its first hotel in the Canary Islands, marking a subtle expansion into the tourism sector. Located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the new boutique property, Las Dunas de Santa Catalina Boutique House, is managed by Sarton Canarias, the company responsible for Ikea's operations in the region.

Unlike the more prominently branded IKEA Hotell in Sweden, the Gran Canaria property has no visible Ikea logo or its trademark flat-pack furniture. Instead, the hotel features a neutral and minimalist design, departing from the familiar Scandinavian aesthetic.
The hotel is situated just five minutes from Las Alcaravaneras Beach and offers guests a range of modern amenities. These include an outdoor swimming pool, garden, terrace, free Wi-Fi, and well-equipped rooms with air conditioning, a coffee maker, minibar, flat-screen TV, and private bathroom with a bidet, fresh linen, and towels. A continental breakfast is available for guests each morning.
Nearby attractions include the Roman Park, Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, and the Poema del Mar Aquarium.
The discreet opening of Las Dunas de Santa Catalina aligns with Ikea's broader strategy to explore real estate and hospitality. The company has previously launched similar projects in Palma de Mallorca and the Caribbean, indicating a growing interest in smaller, centrally located urban hotels that cater to modern travellers.
This latest venture suggests Ikea is experimenting with a less branded, experience-led approach to hospitality while leveraging its design sensibilities in new markets.
