A Danish furniture manufacturer has reported a significant boost in earnings following its decision to repatriate production from Japan to Denmark. The move, initiated in 2022, involved increasing output at its Ringkøbing facility and acquiring the former Schou Andersens Møbelfabrik in Vejen.

The 2024 financial year for Onecollection marked the first full year since the production restructuring. Onecollection reported a doubling in profits on stable turnover. Gross profit rose to DKK 55.7 million, with a net profit of DKK 6.1 million, up from DKK 3 million in 2023. The number of employees also rose to 78, from 38 in 2022.
Co-owner Hans Henrik Sørensen credited the earnings growth to the acquisition and integration of the new factory, stating: 'We are very satisfied. The business has become healthier, and that is a positive development.' He added that the proximity of production to the market has improved flexibility and quality control.
Previously, a large share of the company's Finn Juhl furniture was made in Japan. While some production remains there to serve Asian markets, the shift to Danish manufacturing was driven by challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ukraine war, rising freight costs, and a need for greater operational control.
Onecollection now produces over 60 relaunched Finn Juhl models in Denmark. Tables, cabinets, and shelves are made in Ringkøbing, while chairs are manufactured in Vejen. Upholstery work is carried out at both sites. Sørensen highlighted the importance of having in-house chair production for the first time, noting the high level of competence at the Vejen facility.
The company expects further growth and an improved result in 2025, with its Danish production strategy now firmly in place.
