Homeware sales on the UK high street remained positive for a fifth consecutive week, according to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker. For the week ending 13 April 2025, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose by 3.24%.
Homewares posted a strong performance, with total LFL sales increasing by 5.68%, building on a 4.83% rise during the same period in 2024. This marks the twelfth positive weekly result for the category since the beginning of 2025. Store homewares sales rose by 0.06%, following a 2.96% rise in the same week last year, recording their tenth positive outcome of the year.
Overall, in-store sales remained mostly flat with a marginal 0.02% rise from a strong base of 5.80% the previous year. In contrast, non-store LFL sales experienced a significant jump of 16.38%, compared to 9.86% during the same period last year.
BDO stated that 'non-store sales were chiefly responsible for the boost in total LFL sales for this week, as total in-store sales saw a meagre growth outcome.'
The favourable weather played a role in driving footfall, with warm spring sunshine and temperatures exceeding 20°C in parts of the UK. Similar conditions were recorded during the same week in 2024.
Total footfall grew by 5.2%, with retail parks leading the increase at 6.9%, followed by high streets at 5.4%, and shopping centres at 3.3%.
The results highlight continued resilience in the homeware sector, especially in online channels, amid steady in-store performance and favourable seasonal conditions.
