Historic Danish furniture store on the market after decades of business

A long-standing furniture house located near the Danish-German border has been put up for sale, with an asking price of 21 million DKK. The site, spanning 4,000 square metres, offers a prime location along the Flensborg Fjord, making it an attractive investment for companies seeking visibility to both Danish and German consumers.

Built in stages between 1979 and 1981, the store currently for sale is Kollund Møbler, a company with roots dating back to 1937. It was originally established by saddler Frederik Clausen, known locally as "Fidde", who began by repairing and eventually selling new furniture when old pieces became irreparable. The business steadily grew, and in time, outgrew its original location on Fjordvejen.

The decision to sell was made by current owner Willy Støckler following the resignation of store manager Kim Christensen. 'Without Kim and with an hour and a half drive from my other business interests in Esbjerg, it is not possible for me to give the business the attention it deserves,' he stated earlier in April.

While the building is primarily marketed for continued retail use, broker Kim Faber Hansen from Nordicals noted that "several scenarios" are possible due to its highly strategic location. There is also potential for a buyer to acquire the company's webshop and continue operations under a new structure.

Until 30 September, the store will continue operating with ongoing clearance sales of display models and inventory. The sale marks the end of an era for a business that has served the region for nearly 90 years.
