A former furniture retailer is facing a lawsuit from its previous landlord in Arizona over claims of unpaid rent and breach of contract. The company, which closed its stores last year, allegedly shut down without notice despite having a long-term lease agreement in place.

Sam Levitz Furniture, a Top 100 furniture chain, ceased operations after 71 years, closing three Tucson-area stores, including an Ashley Furniture location. The lawsuit, filed by the owners of Oro Valley Marketplace, claims the retailer failed to meet its lease obligations, which were set to continue until June 2036, with monthly payments of nearly $60,000. The plaintiffs seek damages for breach of contract and personal guaranty.
Additionally, local reports suggest that several customers claim they paid for furniture they never received. A potential class-action lawsuit is being considered, though no official case has been filed.
