Danish furniture chain reverses decision to close 23 stores after bankruptcy

A Danish furniture chain, has reversed its decision to close entirely. While initially planning to shut all 23 stores announced in September, the company, My Home Møbler, now plans to continue operating 7–9 locations under a new, low-cost concept focusing on warehouse sales.

Chairman and founder Jan Hallas explained that the chain is returning to its roots by selling furniture through a warehouse model, as it did when it started in 2006. The decision to continue operations is partly due to existing lease agreements that the company could not terminate and the desire to retain skilled staff.

The stores that will remain open will operate under reduced costs, with a more streamlined product range and shorter opening hours. Hallas hopes to continue using the My Home brand, renaming the stores "My Home Warehouse Sale" if legally permissible.

My Home originally decided to close due to declining sales in the furniture market, resulting in a cumulative pre-tax loss of nearly DKK 50 million over two years.
