This US retailer has closed its home division after just a year

Just a year after launching its furniture collection, the famous US retailer has quietly discontinued the line. This comes after speculations that the future for the company's devision BR Home was uncertain.

The apparel retailer, part of Gap Inc., removed furniture from its website, and sales staff at a New York flagship store confirmed the program's end. Customers were advised to place orders immediately before the discontinuation.

Banana Republic introduced furniture, lighting, and home decor in 2023 as part of its BR Home initiative, extending its lifestyle-focused merchandise with a design aesthetic similar to its clothing lines. However, the timing was unfavourable, coinciding with a post-pandemic slowdown in the home furnishings market, marked by bankruptcies, weak sales, and reduced consumer interest in home goods.

The company has now shifted focus to its core clothing business, particularly its larger brands like Gap and Old Navy, which have shown some positive results. While bedding, bath, and wall art remain available, it's unclear what the future holds for BR Home, as the company grapples with a challenging market.
