Micah Swick, President & COO at Bernards Furniture Group:

'We saw a void in the market; consumers at all ages have a voice in the purchasing process'

Founded by Herman Bernard in 1983, Bernards Inc. is a leading importer of mid-priced furniture based in the U.S. The company is dedicated to offering stylish, high-quality designs from around the world, with a strong focus on exceeding customer expectations and enhancing homes. Micah Swick, President & COO at Bernards Furniture Group, tells us about the collections the company it about to show at High Point Market. 'We will have two new major market introductions this fall.'

Calia
First up is Calia, which will be launched under the new APEX by Bernards umbrella. 'Crafted with matched eucalyptus veneers, this expansive whole home collection includes three beds, two dining tables, home office, home entertainment, occasional, upholstery and a large array of case pieces. Calia features oversized cases, European soft touch, self-closing drawer guides, fully finished interiors, mixed media, and performance fabrics. Calia is a bold modern collection with two-tone features and the scale of yesterday's high end traditional category,' Micah says.

Tarrington
In addition to Calia, Bernards will also unveil Tarrington under its main label. This collection is crafted from American hickory and is available in two appealing finishes: cashew (a light tone) and almond (a warm mid-tone), with accent pieces offered in a pistachio green. 'Tarrington is casual lifestyle collection that gives a warm nod to American heritage designs. The collection boasts four dining tables, three beds, multiple seating options, several upholstery items, aniline leather upholstery, home office, home entertainment, wide occasional assortment, and accent piece.'

Expanding into a younger market
Beyond these two significant launches, Bernards is excited to introduce six additional smaller groups at the market. Notably, the company is expanding into the youth category with a dedicated line targeted at teens. This move comes after previously experimenting with a few youth items, such as mates beds and bunk beds. At this market, Bernards will unveil three full collections, including an expansion of the popular Citrus Heights collection.

'Adding youth is a natural extension of our whole home approach. We saw a void in the market for a well-styled, fashionable offering. Much of the product in the marketplace today is either geared toward young children or very safe, middle of the road. Today's teens are spending a lot of time on social media and, consequently, exposed to so many great product designs, but when they go shopping for themselves are typically presented with much of the same ole, same ole,' Micah explains. 'We believe consumers at all ages want to be inspired and that children of all ages have a greater voice in the purchasing process than ever before.'

'All of our youth groups are middle price points, feature wood veneers, fully finished drawer interiors, ball-bearing guides, power equipped nightstands and more.'
