Ikea opens 21,620 sq ft shop with 9,500 products in Shanghai

26 September, Ingka Group opened a new Ikea shop along with a Livat meeting place in Shanghai's Changning district. This further expands its presence in China.

The new Ikea shop covers a total area of 21,620 square metres and offers more than 9,500 products, of which 4,700 items are available for same-day collection. In addition, the shop features a 450-seat Swedish restaurant, where customers can enjoy a meal on site, and a Swedish food market, where people can buy products to take home. The Ikea shop is spread over two floors within the new Livat Shanghai meeting place, the largest of its kind in China, managed by Ingka Centres, part of the Ingka Group. The complex also includes five new Livat office towers, housing one of the largest Ikea office spaces.

Sara Del Fabbro, Deputy Retail Manager of Ingka Group, commented, "China is one of the most important strategic markets for Ikea, and we are strongly committed to it. We have been operating in China for 26 years and see plenty of opportunities to grow further and contribute to the local economy and communities. We are therefore excited to open another Ikea shop in this region, further strengthening our physical and digital presence and making it even more accessible and convenient for Shanghai residents."

"Every Livat location is more than just a place to shop - it is a space where people come together, inspired by a sense of community and countless reasons to visit. Livat Shanghai is an important milestone as we celebrate our 15-year anniversary in China. We look forward to continuing our journey and bringing new experiences to communities and visitors," said Cindy Andersen, Managing Director of Ingka Centres.

Ikea Shanghai Linkong complements the existing Ikea locations in Shanghai Xuhui, Beicai and Baoshan. The new shop is conveniently located in an area with nearly 800,000 residents and 140,000 office workers. With physical shops combined with a strong online presence, Ikea now offers an even more seamless omnichannel shopping experience in Shanghai.

Following the grand opening of the Ikea Shanghai Linkong shop and Livat Shanghai, Ingka now operates 39 Ikea shops of different sizes and 10 Livat meeting points in the Chinese market.
