A well-known department store has announced plans to cut over 150 jobs as part of a major overhaul of its UK stores. This reduction, affecting approximately 1% of its workforce, aims to enhance customer service by ensuring that staff are optimally positioned to assist customers effectively. The job cuts will be realised through voluntary redundancy and natural attrition.

The restructuring, taking place at John Lewis will involve merging front-of-house and back-of-house roles, allowing more employees to be present on the shop floor. This reorganisation is intended to increase the amount of time staff can spend interacting directly with customers.
John Lewis will be investing £5 million in technology to further improve in-store customer service. This investment will fund digital headsets designed to enhance communication among store employees.
