'Effecting 960 employees'

Austrian authorities reject Liebherr's working hours application

Liebherr, a household appliance manufacturer, has received bad news: the Austrian Public Employment Service (AMS) has rejected its application for a reduction in working hours at its Lienz location.

Originally, up to 960 employees from production and related sectors were supposed to transition to shorter working hours during October, November, and December. This measure was intended to address the continuing decline in demand. Liebherr expected the situation to improve by early 2025 and aimed to retain its workforce despite the downturn.

According to ORF reports, AMS found the request challenging and ultimately denied it. One reason for the rejection is that labour market experts do not foresee a market turnaround in the coming months.
