The creators of the new Atelier Tapis Rouge range have spoken of the inspiration behind the new rug designs: 'A journey through the Parisian neighbourhoods with their elegant and romantic allure: a walk along the Seine or in the bohemian Marais district. The gaze projected onto a timeless city, an extended palette of summer colours recorded at different times of the day and the night: soft and warm in the morning and cool and darker in the evening. A kaleidoscope of images, memories, and sensations translated into surfaces, warming the environment in harmony with the interior decoration and furniture.'
Thus, the rugs of Atelier Tapis Rouge's Ambiance collection, one of the most extensive collections in the catalogue, use a wide range of textures, colours, and styles.
The Ambiance collection makes colour one of its main strengths by defining the hues based on the rays of light recorded throughout the day: a contrast between pastel colours for daytime, where the light is more intense and saturated, and darker brushstrokes for twilight.
In keeping with Nepalese tradition, the rugs are made using the hand-knotting technique with high-quality, all-natural silk and New Zealand wool yarn. The composition of graphic lines and geometric patterns play on different levels to add a dynamic touch to the design. In addition, high concentrations of silk allow for bright accents or 'watery' highlights, as in the La Seine series.
