'Container rates have not peaked yet. And based on Drewry's World Container Index (WCI), the peak is not yet in sight. Where turmoil and temporarily higher demand for containers already boosted the price, congestion in Asia is adding to it.' reports Logistiek.nl.

Container rates for shipments from Asia to Europe rose to $5,117 per container in the week of 20 June, up 7% from the previous week. This rate is 223% higher than the same week last year and 260% higher than before the corona pandemic. The increase began in late 2023 due to Houthi attacks, which forced ships to divert via the Cape of Good Hope. Congestion in Asian ports and longer journey times also contributed to the rate increases, which are expected to continue to rise.
