Over 40 percent of Sweden's retailers expect increased sales during the summer months of June, July and August this year compared to the same period last year. This is shown by new summer figures from the Swedish Trade Federation.

43 percent of retailers believe in increased summer sales, which is a significant increase compared to the previous year, when the corresponding figure was 26 percent. It is thus a more optimistic industry compared to a year ago.

An anticipated increase of jobs
The summer months bring an increased need for summer substitutes and extra jobs. 42 percent of retailers say they plan to hire extra staff during the summer, which is expected to create just over 18,000 additional jobs, which is an increase compared to the previous year. Most jobs are expected to be created in the grocery trade.

'Sweden is a trading country. We are the largest employer in the business sector and contribute over SEK 300 billion in tax revenues. We are really pleased that the industry can accept more extra workers this year. The work experience gained in commerce is valuable for the future. For many, it is a ticket into the labour market," says Maria Mikkonen, Chief Economist at the Swedish Trade Federation.
