At the core of this collaboration is a significant decrease in carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions achieved by substituting traditional fossil fuels with eco-friendly, waste-based biofuels for transporting IKEA goods across the sea.
This agreement is projected to reduce approximately 11,500 tonnes of CO2e emissions from March 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025, by utilizing such biofuels for all IKEA ocean cargo shipments with HMM.
IKEA aims to slash the relative greenhouse gas emissions from their product transportation by 70% by 2030 and ultimately transition to being a zero-emissions cargo owner by 2040.
