Klarna tightens measures to enhance credibility

In recent times, Klarna has faced turbulence due to its association with several fraudulent online stores. However, the payment giant has now introduced several measures aimed at making it harder for non-serious actors to become Klarna-verified merchants. These measures are designed to deter fraudsters attempting to misuse Klarna to appear credible.

However, tighter controls raise concerns about the impact on honest traders who operate legitimately.

Björn Bryngelson, Acting Head of Klarna Sweden, has emphasized the company's commitment to maintaining a high standard. According to him, the majority of Klarna's over half a million global merchants are reputable and should not be affected. He says Klarna aims to continue supporting small businesses, acknowledging its role in the start-up culture and the development of e-commerce in Sweden.

For existing smaller traders using Klarna's payment options, there should be no immediate changes. However, new merchants may experience delays in verification as Klarna ensures they adhere to proper business practices.
