Online sales keep UK retailer Dunelm one step ahead

UK home furnishing retailer Dunelm has reported a 3% increase in sales for the third quarter, reaching £435 million, despite challenges in the homeware and furniture markets. This growth has been attributed to enhancements in its online customer experience, resulting in a 1% rise in digital sales, accounting for 37% of total sales during the 13-week period ending on March 30.

Despite encountering softer demand, particularly in March, Dunelm's CEO, Nick Wilkinson, emphasised the company's resilient performance amid challenging market conditions. He highlighted the appeal of Dunelm's product range to customers seeking quality and value across various home categories.

Wilkinson expressed confidence in the company's ability to adapt to evolving consumer behaviour - part of this adaptation has been its commitment to reaching new frontiers online. In addition to digitalising its retail system, the company's strategy has also been to reinforce its position as the 'Home of Homes' by enhancing its customer offerings, and revamping its marketing approach. Additionally, the company aims to expand its store network, with plans to open six new stores by the end of the year.
