UK bed retailer closes after 100 years of operation

UK bed retailer Barnes of Ipswich, better known as "The Bed Factory" is closing after nearly a century of operation. The decision, slated for the end of April, comes with the regrettable loss of 11 valued staff members, marking the end of an era for this cherished establishment. The company made the difficult decision, due to the shifts in retail landscape, particularly the rise of online shopping, which has reshaped the traditional retail model.

The history of dates back to 1927. Originally specialising in a diverse array of goods including corsets, stockings, lingerie, and linoleum, the business evolved over the decades, gradually shifting its focus towards floor coverings, drapery, and eventually, beds.

Despite the impending closure, The Bed Factory remains steadfast in fulfilling all existing orders and ensuring seamless deliveries continue. The showroom, nestled on Bermuda Road within the Ransomes Industrial Estate in Ipswich, remains open, offering people the chance to secure remaining stock before the final curtain falls in April.
