Westwing Spain has proposed an ERE affecting 102 employees, over 80% of its workforce in the country. The ERE, a procedure that precedes a bankruptcy application, affects 53 employees from its Barcelona office and 49 from the Vila-rodona (Tarragona) logistics center. This was mentioned by the ON Economia.
The workers have announced a five-day strike starting February 26 to protest the ERE. They aim to halt product shipments from the warehouse and the online sales website.
The workers dispute the justification for the ERE, claiming that while the Spanish subsidiary is experiencing losses, the company's overall financial situation contradicts this. Westwing aims to close 2023 with an adjusted EBITDA of 13 to 19 million euros and sales of 390 to 440 million euros.
The closure of the Tarragona warehouse is attributed to the centralisation of logistical operations in Poland, despite the company's intention to continue selling in Spain.
