Commune, the furniture and lifestyle company based in Singapore, made a significant mark at Maison et Objet 2024, showcasing its commitment to harmonizing styles, forms, and function in the urban landscape. Established in 2011, Commune emerged as a visionary concept, bringing together the diverse community of urbanites in Singapore, and acknowledging the rich tapestry of cultures and traditions in this youthful cosmopolitan city. With a keen understanding of the diversity in styles, personalities, and interests, Commune aims to create aesthetically pleasing spaces that foster the growth and cultivation of meaningful shared moments.
Their designs seamlessly integrate into the hustle and bustle of the city, crafted from sustainable and renewable sources to furnish homes that endure beyond passing trends. This year, Alt.o by Commune unveiled four distinct collections at Maison et Objet 2024. Alt.o by Commune featured the Tierra and Siena collection, along with an exciting collaboration with the renowned Swedish design firm, Note Design. Meanwhile, under the Commune brand, the spotlight will be on their Axel Collection.

NOTE DESIGN
The collaboration between Alt.o by Commune and Note Design Studio emerged from the shared vision to conceptualise, develop and produce pieces that aim to integrate Commune’s meticulous and high quality craftsmanship with Note Design’s expertise and forward-thinking approach. This collaboration is intended to present distinctive creations that result from the synergy of these two entities. The design of the furniture was inspired by the efforts put into shaping the brand. This collection of furniture and home decor items takes inspiration from the rich heritage of native Scandinavian design, blending it seamlessly with traditional Singaporean crafts, heritage and materials.
THE TIERRA
The Tierra collection is a creative exploration of desert chic home decor, incorporating neutral colours, natural earthy tones, and textures. With simple minimalist lines, shapes, and refined finishes, the collection seamlessly integrates elements of light wood, mid-century modern, sleek minimalism, and relaxed bohemian, exuding a modern casual style that epitomises quintessential coolness. Inspired by the sun-soaked West Coast of America and the textured deserts of the Southwest states, this collection reflects a resurgence of crafts and the incorporation of industrial innovations into artistic expressions.

SIENA COLLECTION
The Siena collection transports you to a time of straightforward tropical elegance. Utilising travertine, one of the earliest building materials, adds a touch of understated prestige. Each piece is a work of nature’s art, resulting in a distinct finish. The flexibility of rattan enables the crafting of graceful curved forms, creating an elegant tropical ideal for any living space.
THE AXEL COLLECTION
The Axel collection is designed to exude subtle yet refined glamour, capturing the nostalgice ambiance of the 1950s-1960s. Embracing the principles of mid-century design, including organic influences, uncomplicated forms, a focus on functionality, and democratic design, Axel’s Danish-inspired furniture maintains a sleek and timeless quality with its light and airy demeanour.
