Large bamboo material supplier for Europe declared bankrupt

The Dutch firms Bamboo Import Holding B.V. and Bamboo Import Europe B.V. have been declared bankrupt. The companies operate under Bamboe Bouw Nederland, importer and supplier of bamboo materials and products in Europe, with more than 25 years of combined experience in the industry.

'Due to technical maintenance, no orders can be placed at this moment', the company announces on its website. The truth, however, is that the Haarlem court has declared the firms bankrupt.

In 2010, the company began selling bamboo products under the name Bamboe Bouw Nederland, and continured in 2016 with Bamboo Import Europe. At the beginning of 2022, Bamboo Import Europe got a new owner. Investment company 5square, along with the Van Beuningen family and Casper de Nooijer, acquired all the shares at the time.

Two years ago, ambitious growth plans were unveiled. The turnover, which mainly came from the Netherlands and Belgium, was supposed to double. According to the management, this was a realistic goal: 'There is a large, rising demand for high-quality bamboo products in Europe. We see various growth opportunities, including geographical expansion, expansion of the range, and optimisation of the supply chain. This is a rock-solid company with lots of potential. Together with the experienced team, we will make the most of it in the coming years,' was said in 2022.

Bamboo Import Europe purchases its products from several places, including in Asia, South America, and Europe - and sells online and from its warehouse in Beverwijk mainly to private individuals.
